The founding of IT Central Station.

While eating hummus and kebab in the Hell’s Kitchen section of New York City, Russell Rothstein and Naftali Marcus discussed what became the beginning of IT Central Station. The burning question on their minds was—Isn’t there a better way for enterprise professionals to determine which technology solutions to buy? As they sat at a cramped, corner table over dinner, they scribbled ideas on a napkin to outline their plan.

They were struck by the fact that in the age of social networking, enterprises were still buying technology the same old way—that is, with limited access to the opinions of other real users.

Rothstein and Marcus teamed up to build a crowdsourced knowledge platform that helps technology decision makers around the world to better connect with peers and other independent experts who provide advice without vendor bias.

With their diverse experience working in enterprise IT as well as in startups, the founders designed an online site that now operates like a Yelp or TripAdvisor for enterprise technology. They built their first prototype on Wix within days and hit the road to do some deep market research. They spoke with senior technology decision makers, vendors, and corporate thought leaders.
