VidEngineer – Reverse-Engineer Winning Videos Before You Film

VidEngineer reverse-engineers a reference video into a script, cuts, sound kit and remake blueprint, then helps you plan the next film on a board or hand the playbook to an editor or AI assistant. Public gallery free; paid plans from $39 a month.

Description

VidEngineer reverse-engineers a video you already chose. Paste a YouTube, X, TikTok or Instagram link, or upload a file, and it returns a teardown: the script and hook, every signature cut as a clip, a shot-by-shot blueprint, isolated sound, the people and places on screen, and a colour and frame board you can study before you shoot.

It is built by Mark Quadros, a solo founder shipping in public since April 2026. The site still carries a beta label. A launch film premiered on 24 October 2026. VidEngineer does not generate the finished film. The pitch is to take apart a video that already worked, keep the useful cuts and sounds, then plan your version or hand the playbook to an editor or an AI assistant.

Who It’s For

  • Founders and lean marketing teams studying competitor launch films and ads before the next shoot.
  • Creative strategists and editors who collect references and are tired of pausing videos for timestamps.
  • Agencies that need a shareable teardown and client review link before production.
  • Teams using Claude or similar assistants who want structured video research through MCP.

Core Capabilities

Six-layer teardowns. Each analysis opens into The Script (timed transcript, hook type and score), The Cuts (real shot boundaries as playable clips), The Blueprint (shot mix, angles and pacing), Sound Kit, Cast & World, and Look & Frames. The vendor says cuts come from the actual footage, while labels, moods and structure are AI-assisted.

Sound Kit. One isolation pass splits the audio into stems. You get the score whole and sliced where the music changes, plus named sound-effect clips and a spoken script from the isolated voice.

Library and Canvas boards. Star a cut, frame, look or sound and it lands in a filterable library. Canvas boards, marked as beta, let you lay saved references beside a shot plan. Clients can open a share link and comment without a paid seat.

Chrome extension and agents. A Chrome add-on sends the video you are viewing into a new analysis. Paid plans can export PDF or JSON, and an MCP connector lets Claude, Claude Code, Codex and Grok read your teardowns. Reading existing results does not spend credits; starting a new teardown uses your plan allowance.

Pros & Cons

Pros

  • Studies a video you chose, rather than generating a generic script from scratch
  • Public pricing, a free gallery and documented trial terms
  • Shareable client reviews without extra paid seats
  • MCP and JSON exports fit teams that already work in Claude or similar tools

Cons

  • It analyses and plans; it does not edit or publish the finished video
  • Canvas boards are in beta
  • A card-required trial, with some exports unlocking only after the first payment
  • Support is one person, and a few usage details conflict across the FAQ and docs

Where It Fits

VidEngineer sits in video marketing as a research and briefing layer, not as an AI video generator. Use it to understand a reference, then make the film in your editor or a generation tool such as Sume or Hera. For webinar repurposing see Videco; for finding ads rather than taking them apart, see WinnerAdSpy. Browse the AI tools directory for more options.
