MentionBird review 2026: who ChatGPT names instead of you, scored 4.2 out of 5 (Digital Marketing Supermarket)

By Saj Ali · Last updated 3 Nov 2026

MentionBird is an AI visibility platform for SaaS marketing teams. It asks ChatGPT, Gemini and other AI platforms the questions your buyers ask, every day, shows who gets named and which sources the answers lean on, then gives you a ranked plan of moves to get your brand included. Starter is $79 a month and Growth is $299 a month, with no free trial and a $19 first month on Starter with code TRY19 (see MentionBird’s pricing page, checked 3 November 2026). Our verdict: a practical, fairly priced tool for teams that will act on its advice, scored 4.2 out of 5: a solid, well-built tool, held back mainly by the two-engine Starter plan and the lack of a free trial.

For the quick facts, see the MentionBird listing on Digital Marketing Supermarket. If you’re comparing it with the best-known trackers, read our Peec AI review and Profound review alongside this one, and browse every GEO tool in our directory.

TL;DR: our verdict on MentionBird

  • Verdict: One of the few trackers that tells you what to change for each prompt, at a published price from $79 a month. Worth a careful trial for SaaS teams who will do the work themselves, but there’s no free trial, and Starter covers only ChatGPT and Gemini.
  • DMS score: 4.2/5 (Solid, well-built tool)
  • Price: From $79 a month ($66 billed yearly); no free trial, but the first month of Starter is $19 with code TRY19
  • Best for: SaaS and B2B marketing teams that want tracking plus a ranked plan to get named, and will do the work themselves
  • Not for: Teams that want an agent to write and publish content, or who need to test before paying
  • Biggest caveat: No free trial, and only ChatGPT and Gemini on Starter

Why “what do we do about it?” is the real question

Almost every AI visibility tool can show you a chart. It tells you that ChatGPT names three competitors when someone asks for the best tool in your category and doesn’t name you. What the chart doesn’t tell you is why, or what to do on Monday morning. MentionBird is built around that second question. Its homepage puts it this way: every tool in the category can show which sources AI cites, and the difference is what you get to do next (see MentionBird’s homepage).

The underlying mechanism is worth understanding. AI engines build answers from a handful of pages: review sites, “best tools” listicles, forum threads and video reviews. If you want to be named, you usually need to be on those pages, or to have a page worth quoting yourself. Our guides to what generative engine optimisation is and answer engine optimisation explain the idea in more depth.

A fair caution first. Google says no special optimisation is needed to appear in its AI features beyond normal SEO best practice (see Google’s guidance on AI features and your website). So no tool can promise a guaranteed outcome, and MentionBird says it won’t promise a date for results. What it offers is a clearer view of which sources matter and which work to do first.

What is MentionBird?

MentionBird is a product of ADNABU PTE. LTD. It was founded by Salil Panikkaveetil, who says his team spent more than a decade at AdNabu helping Shopify merchants get seen across Google Shopping, Meta, marketplaces and search engines (see MentionBird’s team page). It launched on Product Hunt in October 2026. The founder’s named background in marketing software is a point in its favour next to many tools in this category.

The company describes itself as “Ahrefs for AI search” and positions itself against Profound, Peec AI and Semrush’s AI Toolkit. Its about page cites a figure that around 50% of consumers now use AI-powered search to find information and brands. That’s a vendor claim we haven’t verified, so treat it as colour rather than evidence.

Key features of MentionBird

Daily tracking and scores

MentionBird counts usage in “runs”. A run is one prompt asked on one AI platform once a day, so tracking a question on ChatGPT and Gemini uses two runs a day. Starter includes 100 runs a day, which you can split however you like: 100 questions on one platform, 50 on two, or any mix. Runs reset every morning and don’t roll over, by design, because tracking only works if the same questions are asked every day (see MentionBird’s pricing page).

For each prompt, the platform reports visibility (how often AI mentions you), prominence (how high in the answer you appear), average position and share of voice against competitors, with history for up to 365 days. Brand name variations, abbreviations and common misspellings count as one brand.

Source and citation analysis

This is where MentionBird is strongest. For every prompt, it shows which sites the AI built its answer from, the type of source (news, forums, review sites, docs), the content format (listicle, comparison, how-to, review) and the domain authority of each cited site. It also separates your pages from competitor pages and earned coverage. That’s the data you need to decide whether to pitch a roundup, ask for a review or publish a comparison page.

Prompt research

MentionBird suggests prompts from your site, your competitors and the sources AI already cites, and tags each by buying stage: problem, category, fit, alternatives and comparison. That’s a smart framing, because buyers don’t ask AI once. Each prompt also gets a search volume score and a difficulty score from 1 to 10, so a small team can start where buyers ask often and the answer is still winnable. The homepage examples are illustrative, and the scores are estimates.

Ranking advice

The ranking-advice agent studies a prompt where you aren’t named, checks your existing pages first and returns three to six moves, ranked by effort and impact, with the URLs to target. A typical move might be to get into a listicle that AI quotes, create a category page or publish a comparison page. One ranking plan costs 5 agent credits, so Starter’s 100 monthly credits cover roughly 20 plans. A second agent summarises YouTube videos that AI cites, at 1 credit per 5 minutes of video.

Connect Claude or ChatGPT

Every plan can connect Claude or ChatGPT directly to your MentionBird data, and AI can add brands and prompts for you. If that appeals, see our guide to using Claude skills for marketing and browse other MCP-connected tools in the directory.

Country targeting and exports

Every prompt can be targeted to a country, so you see the answer a buyer in the US, the UK, Germany or India gets, instead of a global average. CSV import and export are on every plan. Pricing tiers differ by volume and platforms rather than by feature: MentionBird says all features are on every plan.

How MentionBird works in practice

  1. Enter your domain. A free one-day ChatGPT report asks five buyer questions, three times each, and shows who gets named and which pages the answers use.
  2. Add prompts. Accept suggestions and check the buying-stage tags.
  3. Track daily. Runs reset each morning, so decide which prompts deserve which platforms.
  4. Run ranking advice. Get a ranked plan for the prompts you’re losing.
  5. Do the work. Pitch the roundups AI quotes, ask customers for reviews, publish the comparison page.
  6. Measure. Daily checks show which prompts moved and which pages began citing you.

How to get started with MentionBird

  • Use the free report first. It costs nothing and tells you whether the problem is real for your brand.
  • Pick 30 to 50 priority prompts. Cover all five buying stages rather than only category questions.
  • Spend runs deliberately. Track high-intent prompts on both platforms and long-tail ones on one.
  • Brief a person. Hand the ranked plan to the person or agency who will do the work, because MentionBird won’t.
  • Review monthly. Re-run advice when sources shift, and cancel if nothing is moving after a few months.

How much does MentionBird cost?

The table shows what’s on MentionBird’s pricing page on 3 November 2026. Annual plans are priced at ten months instead of twelve. Starter is $790 a year and Growth is $2,990 a year.

Plan Price What you get
Starter $79/month ($66/month billed yearly) 100 runs a day on ChatGPT and Gemini, 1 brand and 5 competitors, 10 team members, 100 agent credits a month
Growth $299/month ($249/month billed yearly) 400 runs a day on four platforms (adds Perplexity and Claude), 3 brands with 10 competitors each, 500 agent credits
Custom See website (quote) All 8 platforms, including Grok, Google AI Overviews, Copilot and DeepSeek, and unlimited usage

Add-ons

Extra runs cost $49 a month per 50, and you can stack as many as you need. A pack of 500 extra agent credits is $99. Upgrades apply immediately, downgrades apply from the next billing cycle, and your prompts, tags, history and reports carry over.

No free trial, but a $19 first month

There’s no free trial. MentionBird says every crawl and prompt run costs it money, including during a trial, so it keeps access paid to prevent abuse. Instead, code TRY19 at checkout makes the first month of Starter $19 rather than $79. It’s the complete plan, and it renews at $79 unless you cancel. You can cancel a monthly or annual plan at any time, and access continues until the end of the paid period.

Is it good value?

For a SaaS team, $79 a month is modest next to a freelance writer or an SEO retainer, and the ranked plan per prompt is the part you’d otherwise pay a consultant for. The limits are real, though. Starter tracks only ChatGPT and Gemini, so if your buyers use Perplexity or Claude you need Growth at $299, a jump of nearly four times. With two platforms, 100 runs covers just 50 prompts. Count your priority prompts before you decide.

Is there a way to test it before paying?

Only partly. The free one-day ChatGPT report shows how MentionBird works on five questions, which is enough to judge whether its source data is useful. It doesn’t let you test daily tracking, Gemini or the ranking-advice agent. The discounted first month is the practical trial: it’s a full Starter plan for $19. Plan to run ranking advice on your top prompts in that month, then decide on the output, not the dashboard.

Who MentionBird suits, and who it doesn’t

Good fit:

  • SaaS and B2B marketing teams who need to know which sources shape AI recommendations in their category
  • Small teams that want a published price and no sales call
  • Agencies and consultants who want a ranked to-do list per prompt to brief a team
  • Teams with someone to execute: pitching roundups, collecting reviews, publishing comparison pages

Poor fit:

  • Teams that want an agent to write and publish the content
  • Anyone who needs a free trial before paying
  • Brands whose buyers rely mainly on engines outside ChatGPT and Gemini, unless you take Growth or Custom

Pros and cons of MentionBird

Pros

  • Published prices from $79 a month, with 10 team seats on Starter
  • Ranked advice per prompt on every plan, rather than a chart only
  • Rich source and citation data, with volume and difficulty scores
  • Country targeting and CSV export on every plan
  • Cancel any time, and annual plans give two months free

Cons

  • No free trial, although the first month of Starter is $19
  • Starter tracks only ChatGPT and Gemini; Perplexity and Claude need Growth
  • Competitor comparisons and testimonials on the site are the vendor’s own
  • It advises rather than acts, so you still have to do the work
  • We found little detail on security or data handling

Where MentionBird fits in your marketing stack

MentionBird sits between measurement and execution. It isn’t a content tool and it isn’t a classic SEO suite, so it works best beside your SEO platform, your analytics and whoever writes your content. The ranked plan tells you what to do, and your team or agency does it. How we scored MentionBird

Every DMS review uses the same five criteria, each marked out of 5, and the overall score is a weighted average on the DMS 2026 scale, with features and evidence counting most. This is a desk review: we scored what the vendor publishes and what independent sources show, not a paid hands-on test.

Criterion Score Why
Features and depth 4/5 Daily tracking, source and citation analysis, prompt scoring, a ranked-advice agent and a Claude or ChatGPT connection on every plan. Starter covers two engines, and it advises rather than acts.
Pricing transparency and value 4/5 Public prices from $79 with every feature on every plan and a clear run and credit model. No free trial, but code TRY19 makes the first month of Starter $19.
Evidence and credibility 3.5/5 Made by ADNABU Pte. Ltd., with a named founder, Salil, and more than a decade in marketing software behind the team. Results and comparisons are the vendor’s own.
Risk and compliance 3.5/5 Monthly or annual with cancellation allowed and no lock-in. Limited detail on security and data handling on the pages we read.
Ease of getting started 4/5 Free one-day ChatGPT report, suggested prompts, no install and a ranked to-do list.
Overall 4.2/5 Solid, well-built tool

Our verdict on MentionBird

MentionBird is a sensible answer to the question most trackers leave open. Its source and citation data is detailed, the buying-stage prompt framing is smart and the ranked plan per prompt gives a small team a place to start. A published $79 starting price with every feature on every plan, ten seats and no lock-in is a good offer.

The drawbacks are practical. There’s no free trial, Starter covers only two engines and the evidence for results is the vendor’s own. That’s why it scores 4.2 rather than higher. If you’re a SaaS team with someone who will do the work, try the free report and the discounted first month, and judge it on the ranked advice. If you want an agent to produce the content too, look at Omnia or Prefer first.
