Prefer review 2026: AI search tracking and 30 articles a month, scored 4.3 out of 5 (Digital Marketing Supermarket)

By Saj Ali · Last updated 3 Nov 2026

Prefer is an AI visibility platform that measures how ChatGPT, Gemini, Google AI Overviews, Google AI Mode and Perplexity answer your buyers’ questions, then helps you write and publish the content that wins the citation. It has one self-serve plan at $99 a month ($79 a month billed yearly) that includes 150 tracked prompts and 30 articles a month, plus a 7-day free trial that needs no card (see Prefer’s pricing page, checked 3 November 2026). Our verdict: the most complete tracker-plus-writer on a single published price that we’ve reviewed, scored 4.3 out of 5: a solid, well-built tool from a young company.

For the quick facts, see the Prefer listing on Digital Marketing Supermarket. If you want to compare it with the best-known trackers, read our Peec AI review and Profound review, and browse every GEO tool in our directory.

TL;DR: our verdict on Prefer

  • Verdict: The most complete tracker-plus-writer on a single published price we’ve reviewed. Worth a careful trial for small teams and agencies; check every AI-written page and ask for the security details before you scale.
  • DMS score: 4.3/5 (Solid, well-built tool)
  • Price: $99 a month ($79 billed yearly); 7-day free trial, no card
  • Best for: Small and mid-sized marketing teams, and agencies, that want AI tracking and content on one published price
  • Not for: Enterprises that need certified security assurances up front, or anyone who wants a human to write every page
  • Biggest caveat: A young, bootstrapped company with no independent evidence of results yet, and AI-written drafts still need review

Why a tracker and a writer in one tool

Marketers who track AI answers soon hit the same wall. The dashboard shows you were absent from the answer to “best CRM for small agencies”, and it names the pages the engine used instead. Then you need a page that could replace them, with real facts, in your brand’s voice, on your CMS. Most teams solve that with a second tool or a freelancer, and the link between the data and the draft gets lost.

Prefer is built around closing that loop. Its own framing is that a rank tracker tells you that you were absent, while Prefer tells you which source the engine used instead, drafts the page that could replace it and checks the next run to see whether it did (see Prefer’s platform page). If the vocabulary is unfamiliar, our guides to what generative engine optimisation is and answer engine optimisation explain it.

A fair caution first. Google says no special optimisation is required to appear in its AI features beyond normal SEO best practice (see Google’s guidance on AI features and your website). So the case for a tool like Prefer is not a secret method. It’s speed: measuring several engines at once and drafting sourced pages faster than you could by hand.

What is Prefer?

Prefer is made by Kocoa Technologies Private Limited, a company founded in 2025 and based in Mumbai, India. Its founders are Javed Khatri and Mandar Sawant, who say they previously built a company called Kustard (see Prefer’s about page). Until August 2026 the product was called Visibly, so you may see older reviews and comparisons under that name. We found no funding announcement, so we describe it as bootstrapped as far as we can tell. It launched on Product Hunt in October 2026.

That profile matters. Prefer is far newer and smaller than the enterprise platforms in this category, and you should weigh the price advantage against the lack of a track record. Its pitch is plain: your brand now has two buyers, one of them a machine, and almost nobody is marketing to the machine yet.

Key features of Prefer

Prefer groups its modules into two halves that share one dataset: Measure and Act. The plans differ mainly in prompts, articles, competitors, projects and seats rather than in which features you get.

Answer Engine Insights

This is the tracker. For each prompt, Prefer records whether your brand is mentioned, cited or recommended on each engine, the sentiment, your share of voice and the sources each answer was built from. Every plan covers ChatGPT, Gemini, Google AI Overviews, Google AI Mode and Perplexity, and Claude is available on Enterprise (see Prefer’s platform page). Each engine is reported separately. Prefer says that in its own study of 960 answers the engines rarely cited the same sources, which is a vendor finding, though it matches what most people see when they compare engines by hand.

Competition

Competition benchmarks your citation share against rivals you name, question by question. A project includes up to 10 competitors, and we’d suggest checking which ones Prefer picks up automatically and adding any it misses.

Agent Analytics

Agent Analytics shows traffic and behaviour from AI agents and crawlers that land on your site. That tells you whether the engines can read the pages you want cited, a gap that pure answer trackers leave open.

Content Gap and Optimise Content

Content Gap lists the buyer questions and topics where you aren’t cited yet. Optimise Content suggests on-page fixes that make the pages you already own more answer-ready. Together they point the writer at the right work.

Create Content

This is the feature that sets Prefer apart. Create Content starts from a brief rather than a blank page: the target prompt, page type, target URL, voice, length and the sources the agent is allowed to use. According to Prefer, it then parses the AI answers that beat you, reads the pages they quote and your own documents, plans the sections and writes against them (see Prefer’s Create Content page).

Inside the editor, Prefer shows a live score for how ready the draft is to be quoted, the terms covered and the questions answered. It also says it refuses to write a claim it can’t source. Prices, limits and dates come from your documents or a live page, with the fetch date attached, and anything unverifiable is flagged as a gap for you to fill rather than invented. That’s the right design for AI-written pages, where invented facts are the main risk. Be aware that the product screens on Prefer’s feature pages use demo data, so treat the example numbers there as illustration.

Finished pages can be pushed to WordPress, Webflow or Contentful with metadata, schema and internal links, or exported as HTML or Markdown. Prefer also lists integrations with Strapi, Ghost, Framer and Astro among others.

Action Center

The Action Center is a prioritised queue of moves, each with its evidence, a draft and a measured outcome. It’s meant to answer the question every GEO tool must answer: what should we do on Monday morning?

API and MCP access

Every paid plan includes MCP access, so you can query your visibility data from Claude, ChatGPT or Cursor, while full API and warehouse sync is an Enterprise feature (see Prefer’s platform page). Search Console, Analytics and CDN integrations and Looker Studio reporting are also listed. If you’re curious about using an assistant for marketing work, see our guide to using Claude skills for marketing and the MCP-connected tools in the directory.

How to get started with Prefer

  1. Run the free audit. It shows where you stand before you pay.
  2. List the questions you most want to win. Aim for 30 buyer questions in your customers’ words, then compare them with Prefer’s suggestions.
  3. Check the competitors. Make sure the rivals your buyers actually name are in the project.
  4. Create one page. Use Create Content on a gap you know well, and read every sourced claim before publishing.
  5. Publish and re-run. Push the page to your CMS, then see whether the next run cites it. Expect weeks, not days.
  6. Decide on add-ons. If 150 prompts or 30 articles isn’t enough, packs cost $49 each.

How much does Prefer cost?

Prefer is unusually open about price. The table shows what’s on Prefer’s pricing page on 3 November 2026. A 7-day free trial needs no card, and you can cancel any time.

Plan Price What you get
Prefer (self-serve) $99/month, or $79/month billed yearly 150 prompts, 30 articles a month, 5 engines, 10 competitors per project, unlimited regions, projects and members, API and MCP access
Prefer Agency $199/month 250 prompts and 50 articles a month, with white-label pitch audits
Prefer Managed $1,499/month Prefer’s team runs the work for you on the same platform, with a dedicated strategist; billed monthly
Enterprise See website (custom) Includes Claude tracking on the API

Add-ons and annual billing

Add-ons are $49 each: a pack of 100 more prompts, or a pack of 20 more articles a month. You can stack as many as you need and change them from the dashboard. Annual billing saves 20% and is invoiced once for twelve months, which makes $79 a month equivalent to $948 a year. Prefer says your trial data is kept when you subscribe.

Is $99 good value?

For what’s included, yes, on paper. Several rivals charge for tracking alone at similar prices, and none we’ve reviewed bundles 30 articles. The sensible way to test value is to price the articles. If you’d otherwise pay a writer for even a few of them, the tracking is close to free. The risk is the opposite one: paying for 30 articles you don’t have time to review. Treat 30 as a ceiling, not a target.

Is the free trial enough to decide?

Seven days with no card is enough to run the audit, set up your prompts and create a page or two. It’s not enough to see whether published content gets cited, because that takes weeks. Use the trial to judge three things: whether the data looks credible against your own manual checks, whether Create Content’s drafts are accurate and usable, and whether the CMS publishing works with your setup. Then give yourself a 60 to 90 day checkpoint after you subscribe.

Who Prefer suits, and who it doesn’t

Good fit:

  • Small and mid-sized marketing teams that want to track AI answers and publish from one tool
  • Agencies that need several client projects at a flat monthly price
  • Teams on WordPress, Webflow or Contentful with an editor who reviews every page
  • Marketers who like data-led briefs and want sources attached to every claim

Poor fit:

  • Enterprise teams that need SOC 2-style assurances up front, as we haven’t seen them stated
  • Anyone who wants a human to write every page
  • Teams with no editor, since AI-written drafts still need review

Pros and cons of Prefer

Pros

  • One published price with every feature included, and a no-card trial
  • Five engines on every plan, with unlimited regions, projects and members
  • A writer that grounds claims in your sources and flags what it can’t verify
  • MCP access included on paid plans
  • Add-ons priced openly at $49 each

Cons

  • A young, bootstrapped company from 2025, with a recent rename from Visibly
  • Claude tracking is Enterprise only
  • Ratings, testimonials and demo screens are the vendor’s own
  • No security certification named, though data handling is set out on a Trust and data page
  • AI-written content at scale still needs human review

Where Prefer fits in your marketing stack

Prefer doesn’t replace your SEO suite, analytics or editor. It sits beside them as the AI-answer layer: measuring what engines say, drafting pages to change it and publishing to your CMS. Rankings and technical SEO still matter, because AI engines lean on pages that already rank well. Our roundup of the best brand monitoring tools and list of the 25 best AI analytics tools cover the wider measurement picture.

Because Prefer writes content, it also overlaps with AI marketing agents. See our best AI marketing agents in 2026 roundup and our guide to AI marketing agents for SEO, and browse the AI agents tag. The difference is that Prefer’s drafts start from a measured citation gap rather than a keyword list.

How we scored Prefer

Every DMS review uses the same five criteria, each marked out of 5, and the overall score is a weighted average on the DMS 2026 scale, with features and evidence counting most. This is a desk review: we scored what the vendor publishes and what independent sources show, not a paid hands-on test.

Criterion Score Why
Features and depth 4/5 Five engines on every plan, source-level citation data, a content studio with live scoring, an action queue, API and MCP access.
Pricing transparency and value 4.5/5 One public self-serve price with all features included, add-ons priced at $49, and a no-card trial. Managed and Enterprise are quoted.
Evidence and credibility 3.5/5 Kocoa Technologies, a named Mumbai company with named founders and a named customer, JournalPlus. Founded in 2025 and renamed from Visibly in 2026.
Risk and compliance 3.5/5 A Trust and data page says Google connections are read-only and data is not sold or shared, and you can cancel any time. No security certification is named, and AI-written pages need human review.
Ease of getting started 4/5 Free audit, a 7-day trial with no card and CMS publishing to WordPress, Webflow and Contentful.
Overall 4.3/5 Solid, well-built tool

Our verdict on Prefer

Prefer is the best-value attempt we’ve seen at joining tracking and content on one published price. Five engines on every plan, source-level citation data, a writer that refuses to invent claims and MCP access are a strong set for $99 a month. The Action Center and the verify step, where prompts are re-run to see whether a page got cited, are the right way to keep the content work honest.

The weaknesses are about maturity. The company is young and recently renamed, and it names no security certification, although its Trust and data page sets out how it handles your data. That’s why it scores 4.3 rather than higher. If you’re a small team or agency with an editor, run the free audit and the trial, publish one reviewed page and judge the result. If you need enterprise assurance or an independent track record, start with Peec AI or Profound.
