Opinly Review 2026: SEO Autopilot With a Backlink Exchange Its Own Terms Ban

October 22, 2026

Opinly review 2026: automated SEO platform with site audit, AI content, CMS publishing and an LLM visibility add-on (Digital Marketing Supermarket)

Opinly is an automated SEO platform. It audits your site, finds keywords, writes and schedules AI content, publishes it to WordPress, Webflow, Shopify and several JavaScript frameworks, tracks rankings and competitors, and sells an LLM Visibility add-on for AI search. It also offers a “Backlink Exchange” of “automatic, AI-driven link placements” (see Opinly’s website). Prices only appear after sign-up, and the free trial needs a payment method. Our verdict: proceed with caution. The content and tracking tools are useful, but the link exchange contradicts Opinly’s own terms and Google’s spam policies, and the billing terms need reading before you start.

For the quick facts, see the Opinly listing on Digital Marketing Supermarket. Below we cover what each toolkit does, the trial and billing terms, the link-exchange problem in detail and how Opinly compares with Overrank, Bunzy and other AI SEO tools in our directory.

TL;DR: our verdict on Opinly

  • Verdict: A broad SEO autopilot with wide CMS support, let down by a backlink exchange that contradicts its own terms and a trial that bills quickly. Proceed with caution.
  • DMS score: 2.7/5 (Proceed with caution)
  • Price: Not public (shown after sign-up); 3-day free trial needs a card and converts to paid; LLM Visibility add-on costs extra
  • Best for: Small businesses that want audits, AI content and rank tracking in one tool and will edit what it writes
  • Not for: Brands that can’t risk link-scheme penalties, and anyone who wants to see the price before entering a card
  • Biggest caveat: The homepage sells “automatic, AI-driven link placements” while section 17 of Opinly’s own terms bans “automated link exchanges”

The rise of “SEO on autopilot”

A new group of tools promises to take SEO off your to-do list entirely: connect your site, approve some keywords and let the software write, publish and build links while you get on with running the business. Opinly, Overrank and Bunzy, all in our latest batch of listings, sit squarely in this category. They differ in price and in how much they tell you up front, but they share the same two risks: AI content at volume and automated link building. Google’s guidance on both is clear, so we judge these tools partly on how they handle them.

For context on the wider market, see our round-up of the 25 best AI SEO tools for 2026 and our guide to AI marketing agents for SEO.

What is Opinly?

Opinly is made by Opinly Software, Inc., a Delaware company. Its CEO and co-founder is David McGuckin. The homepage says Opinly is “trusted by 30,000+ marketers” and has automated “15k+” sites; these are the company’s own figures. Its tagline is “Outrank your competitors. On Google and in ChatGPT”, and it describes the product as something that “finds what is worth writing, publishes it, and does it again” (see Opinly’s website).

Key features of Opinly

Opinly groups its features into toolkits (see Opinly’s platform page).

Site audit

An audit score for technical SEO and site structure, tracked over time and against competitors. There’s a free audit, which is the safest way to try Opinly.

Keyword tracking and research

Track how your keywords rank over time and find new ones based on search volume, intent and competition. If rank tracking is your main need, compare it with the tools in our 25 best AI rank tracker tools round-up.

Content generation and scheduling

AI-written, SEO-focused articles that you can schedule to publish. The terms show that content is billed through Blog Credits and Image Credits, which are non-refundable once used (see Opinly’s terms of service).

Platform integration

Opinly connects to WordPress, Webflow and Shopify, plus frameworks such as Next.js, Nuxt and Svelte, with developer SDKs. That’s wider support than most autopilot tools, and useful if your site is built on a modern JavaScript stack.

Competitor analytics

Track competitors’ rankings, content and backlinks, find the gaps they’re missing and benchmark your own performance.

LLM Visibility add-on

A paid add-on that measures how your brand and content appear in large language models and AI search. It’s charged on top of your subscription and runs on the same trial, so if you leave it switched on at checkout, it’s billed when the trial ends. Pausing keeps your history; cancelling may delete it permanently (see section 5.12 of Opinly’s terms of service).

Backlink Exchange

The homepage describes it as “automatic, AI-driven link placements that grow your authority effortlessly”. The platform page describes a backlink toolkit that finds sites likely to link to you and tracks your profile. That second description is ordinary SEO. The first is where the problems start.

The Backlink Exchange problem

Section 17 of Opinly’s own terms of service lists prohibited “manipulative link schemes”, including “the buying or selling of links that pass ranking signals”, private blog networks and “automated link exchanges, or any backlink scheme intended to manipulate search engine rankings” (see Opinly’s terms of service). The same section says Opinly may suspend accounts that break the rule.

Google’s spam policies say much the same. Its examples of link spam include “excessive link exchanges” and “using automated programs or services to create links to your site” (see Google’s spam policies on link spam). Google can respond with ranking demotions or, in serious cases, removal from results.

We can’t see how the exchange works behind the login, and it’s possible it’s more selective than the homepage suggests. But a feature marketed as “automatic, AI-driven link placements” is, on its face, the thing both documents warn against. Our advice is simple: don’t switch it on until Opinly explains in writing how it differs from an automated link exchange. If you want links, earn them; our guide to the 15 best backlink analysis tools covers tools for monitoring your profile honestly.

How Opinly works, step by step

  1. Sign up and start the trial. A payment method is required.
  2. Run the audit. Get an audit score and a list of technical issues.
  3. Pick keywords. Opinly suggests opportunities and tracks competitors.
  4. Connect your CMS. WordPress, Webflow, Shopify or a supported framework.
  5. Generate and schedule content. Articles use Blog Credits and images use Image Credits.
  6. Track. Monitor rankings, competitors and, with the add-on, AI visibility.

How much does Opinly cost?

We couldn’t see plan prices without signing up on 22 October 2026. Section 5 of Opinly’s terms of service does set out how billing works:

Item What the terms say
Plans Monthly or annual subscriptions; prices shown on the pricing and checkout pages after sign-up
Free trial Normally 3 days, needs a valid payment method, converts to paid automatically and is charged immediately on expiry
LLM Visibility add-on Charged in addition to the plan, billed monthly, no separate trial
Credits Blog and Image Credits are usage-based and non-refundable once used
Money-back guarantee Full refund if requested within 3 days of a subscription or add-on charge
Enterprise Refund of Enterprise fees if you see no results within 90 days of the first charge
Failed annual renewal May be converted to monthly billing at the monthly rate

Three further terms are worth knowing before you enter a card:

  • Plan adjustments: section 5.1 says Opinly “may make reasonable adjustments to plan configuration or tier” before the first paid billing period. Check which plan you’re on before the trial ends.
  • Cooling-off: section 5.9 says that once the trial converts and you keep using the service, you lose any statutory right to cancel, to the extent the law allows.
  • “Start for Free”: the homepage says this, but the trial needs a card. “Free” here means free for three days.

None of this is unusual on its own, but together it means you should set a reminder for the trial end, switch the add-on off at checkout unless you want it, and use the 3-day money-back window if you change your mind.

What about the AI content?

Google says it rewards helpful content however it’s made, but that using automation “to generate content with the primary purpose of manipulating ranking in search results” breaks its spam policies (see Google Search Central’s guidance on AI content). Its scaled content abuse policy targets pages produced in bulk mainly to rank (see Google’s spam policy on scaled content abuse). Opinly’s own terms also ban “generation of low-quality content at scale for the primary purpose of manipulating search results”.

So the question isn’t whether to use AI, but how. Edit each article, add your own expertise and examples, and publish fewer, better pieces rather than everything the scheduler can produce. Our guide to content planning software can help you plan what’s worth writing in the first place.

A safe way to trial Opinly

Our suggested plan, based on Opinly’s published features and terms. We haven’t used a paid account.

  1. Before signing up: run the free site audit. If the issues it finds are ones you already knew about, or are trivial, you’ve learned something without entering a card.
  2. At checkout: note the plan and price shown, switch the LLM Visibility add-on off unless you specifically want it, and put the trial end date in your calendar, allowing for the trial being as short as 3 days.
  3. Day 1: connect Search Console data if offered, pick five to ten keywords you genuinely want to rank for, and leave the Backlink Exchange off.
  4. Day 2: generate two articles. Edit them as you would a freelancer’s draft: check facts, add examples from your own business and remove anything generic. If editing takes longer than writing from scratch, that’s your answer.
  5. Day 3: decide. If you keep it, check your first invoice matches the plan you chose. If you don’t, cancel before the trial ends, and remember the 3-day money-back window if you’re charged.

Questions to ask Opinly before you buy

  • How exactly does the Backlink Exchange choose sites and place links, and how is that different from the “automated link exchanges” banned in section 17 of your terms?
  • Are links placed on sites run by other Opinly customers? Are they reciprocal?
  • What does each plan cost, and how many Blog and Image Credits does it include?
  • Which AI platforms does the LLM Visibility add-on track, and how many prompts?
  • Can articles be held as drafts in the CMS for approval rather than published automatically?

Get the answers in writing before you switch anything on. If AI search is the main reason you’re interested, our complete guide to answer engine optimisation explains what actually earns citations in AI answers. Hint: it’s rarely exchanged links.

Pros and cons of Opinly

Pros

  • Audit, keywords, content, publishing and tracking in one tool
  • Wide CMS and framework support, including Next.js, Nuxt and Svelte
  • A free site audit and a 3-day money-back guarantee
  • An LLM visibility add-on for AI search
  • Detailed, published terms

Cons

  • A backlink exchange that contradicts its own terms and Google’s policies
  • Prices hidden until sign-up
  • A short, card-required trial that bills on expiry
  • The add-on and credits add cost on top of the plan
  • User figures are vendor claims

Who should use Opinly, and who shouldn’t

Use it if you’re a small business or marketer who wants audits, keyword tracking and draft content in one place, has a site on a supported CMS or framework and will edit before publishing.

Skip it if you’re a brand that can’t risk a link-spam penalty, a team that needs to see pricing before trialling, or someone who wants a fully hands-off tool, because the safe way to use Opinly involves hands-on editing.

Opinly vs the alternatives

Tool Type Choose it over Opinly if
Overrank Daily SEO articles You want public pricing ($39 a month) and a simpler content autopilot; note its own link network
Bunzy SEO and GEO autopilot You want 30 long articles a month, AI-answer tracking and public pricing
Okara AI CMO You need SEO plus AI search, social and Reddit, with a free plan
SEOJuice Automated on-site SEO You want internal links and on-page fixes without any link exchange
Arvow AI SEO content automation Content for Google and ChatGPT is your main need

How we scored Opinly

Every DMS review uses the same five criteria, each marked out of 5, and the overall score is the average. This is a desk review: we scored what the vendor publishes and what independent sources confirm, not a paid hands-on test.

Criterion Score Why
Features and depth 4/5 Audit, content, CMS publishing, keyword and competitor tracking and LLM visibility in one place.
Pricing transparency and value 1.5/5 Prices behind a login; a 3-day card-required trial that bills on expiry; add-on charged extra.
Evidence and credibility 3/5 Registered company and published terms; usage figures are the vendor’s own.
Risk and compliance 1.5/5 Sells an automated backlink exchange that its own terms and Google’s spam policies prohibit.
Ease of getting started 3.5/5 Wide CMS support, but billing terms need careful reading.
Overall 2.7/5 Proceed with caution

Verdict: should you use Opinly?

Proceed with caution. Opinly’s audit, keyword, content and tracking tools are useful, and its CMS support is broader than most. But the Backlink Exchange is marketed in terms that its own acceptable-use policy and Google’s spam policies both prohibit, and the trial is short, card-required and bills on expiry. If you try it, start with the free audit, keep the link exchange off, switch the add-on off at checkout unless you need it, edit every article and diarise the trial end.

How much does Opinly cost? Opinly’s prices only appeared after sign-up on 22 October 2026. Plans are monthly or annual, the LLM Visibility add-on is charged extra, and content uses Blog and Image Credits.

Is Opinly’s Backlink Exchange safe? We’d keep it off. The homepage sells automatic, AI-driven link placements, while section 17 of Opinly’s own terms bans automated link exchanges, and Google’s spam policies treat excessive link exchanges and automated link building as link spam.

Which CMSs does Opinly support? WordPress, Webflow and Shopify, plus frameworks such as Next.js, Nuxt and Svelte, with developer SDKs.
