Profound Review 2026: The Enterprise AI Search Visibility Platform, Tested Against Its Claims

October 23, 2026 · 14 min read

Profound review 2026: see and shape what AI says about your brand (Digital Marketing Supermarket)

Profound is an AI search visibility platform for enterprise brands. It tracks how ChatGPT, Gemini, Perplexity, Google AI Overviews and up to five more answer engines describe your brand, then uses an “AI Marketer” agent to draft the content that improves those answers. Brands get a free 7-day trial, after which Profound is sold as a custom-priced Enterprise plan, so you’ll need to see the website or talk to sales for a number (see Profound’s pricing page, checked 23 October 2026). Our verdict: the most complete platform in the category and the best-funded, scored 3.6 out of 5 because its pricing is hidden and its trial is short.

For the quick facts, see the Profound listing on Digital Marketing Supermarket. If you’re weighing it against a self-serve tracker, read our Peec AI review alongside this one, and browse every GEO tool in our directory.

TL;DR: our verdict on Profound

  • Verdict: The most complete AI search visibility platform we’ve reviewed, and the best-funded. Worth a trial if AI search is already a KPI and you have an enterprise budget; if you need a price you can see today, start with Peec AI.
  • DMS score: 3.6/5 (Worth a careful trial)
  • Price: Free 7-day trial; Enterprise is custom (see website). Agencies: $99 a month plus $399 a month per client workspace
  • Best for: Enterprise and larger mid-market brands, and agencies, where someone owns AI visibility as a KPI
  • Not for: Small businesses and solo marketers who want a fixed, published monthly price
  • Biggest caveat: You can’t see a brand price before talking to sales, and AI Marketer and Agent work runs on credits

Why AI search visibility became a budget line

Two years ago, “how do we show up in ChatGPT?” was a curiosity. In 2026 it’s a question marketing directors are asked in board meetings. Buyers now ask AI assistants which software to shortlist, which bank to open an account with and which moisturiser to buy, and the assistant answers with a handful of brand names and a few cited sources. If you’re not in that answer, you’re not in the consideration set.

That shift created a new tool category, usually called generative engine optimisation (GEO) or answer engine optimisation (AEO). If the terms are new to you, our comprehensive guide to GEO and complete guide to AEO explain the basics. The tools in this space do two jobs: they measure how often and how well AI mentions you, and they help you change it.

A fair counterpoint before we go further: Google says there are “no additional requirements” to appear in its AI features and no special optimisations are needed beyond normal SEO best practice (see Google’s guidance on AI features and your website). That’s true for Google, and it’s a useful reality check. But Google is one of nine engines Profound tracks, and the others don’t publish equivalent guidance. Measuring what each one says about you is still worth doing, even if the fixes look a lot like good SEO and good PR.

What is Profound?

Profound was founded in New York in 2024 by James Cadwallader (CEO) and Dylan Babbs (CTO), and launched publicly with a $3.5 million seed round that August (see TechCrunch’s 2024 launch story). It has grown quickly since. In September 2026 it raised a $180 million Series D at a $1.8 billion valuation, less than seven months after a $96 million Series C (see TechCrunch’s report on the Series D).

The Series D was co-led by Sequoia Capital and Kleiner Perkins, with Lightspeed, Khosla Ventures and others following on. Profound says it now serves more than 1,000 enterprise brands, naming Comcast, The Estée Lauder Companies, Walmart, Campari Group and Royal Bank of Canada, plus tech companies such as Zoom, ServiceNow, Ramp, Cursor, MongoDB and Figma (see Profound’s Series D announcement). Those customer numbers are the company’s own, but the funding and investors are independently reported, which puts Profound well ahead of most tools in our directory on credibility.

The product has also changed shape. Profound started as a visibility tracker. It now pitches itself as “the AI platform for marketing teams”: a tracker plus an AI Marketer, Agents and Sheets that turn what the tracker finds into drafted content.

Key features of Profound

Answer Engine Insights

This is the tracker at the core of the product. You give it prompts (the questions your buyers ask), and it runs them every day across the engines on your plan. It reports a visibility score, share of voice against competitors, sentiment, and the websites each engine cites. Profound lists nine engines: ChatGPT, Perplexity, Claude, Microsoft Copilot, Google AI Overviews, Google AI Mode, Gemini, Grok and DeepSeek, across 30+ languages and 150+ regions (see Profound’s Answer Engine Insights page).

One detail matters more than it sounds. Profound says it captures answers from the consumer front end of each platform, the same interface a real person uses, rather than calling the model’s API. API answers can differ from what users see, because the consumer apps can add web search and their own settings on top of the model. Front-end capture is slower and costlier to run, which is part of why Profound charges what it does.

FactCheck

FactCheck looks for claims AI gets wrong about your brand: an old price, a discontinued product, a fee you no longer charge. It shows the sources the engine relied on, so you know which page, review site or forum thread to correct (see Profound’s FactCheck announcement). For regulated sectors such as banking and healthcare, this may be the most valuable feature in the product.

Prompt Volumes

Most AI visibility tools make you guess which prompts to track. Prompt Volumes is Profound’s dataset of real prompts people type into answer engines, with trends and intent, so you can track what people actually ask (see Profound’s Prompt Volumes page). Treat the numbers as directional: they’re modelled from Profound’s own data, not published by OpenAI or Google.

Agent Analytics

Agent Analytics reads your server or CDN logs to show which AI crawlers visit your site, which pages they fetch, how often, and how much human traffic AI search sends back. It connects to Akamai, AWS, Cloudflare, Fastly, Google Analytics, Google Cloud, Netlify, Vercel and WordPress (see Profound’s Agent Analytics page). This closes a gap that pure answer trackers leave open: you can see whether an engine can even read the page you want it to cite.

AI Marketer and Context Manager

The AI Marketer is an agent that knows your brand. Context Manager is where that knowledge lives: your positioning, products, tone and past decisions, structured so the AI Marketer can apply it. When the AI Marketer finds a gap in what it knows, it asks (see Profound’s Context Manager page). In practice, this is what stops AI-drafted content sounding generic.

Agents and Sheets

Agents are reusable workflows you build with drag and drop or start from templates: refresh an article, write AEO-ready FAQs, research a competitor, draft a new post. Every run includes a human approval step before anything is published, and output can go straight to your CMS. Sheets runs an Agent across hundreds of rows at once, for example refreshing every product page in a category (see Profound’s Agents page).

ChatGPT Shopping

For retailers, Profound tracks how ChatGPT Shopping describes and ranks your products, down to individual SKUs (see Profound’s Shopping page).

Security and compliance

Profound says it is SOC 2 Type II compliant and supports SSO/SAML, role-based access control and GDPR compliance. For an enterprise buyer, that’s often the difference between a tool procurement will approve and one it won’t.

How Profound collects its data

Every AI visibility tool samples answers, and AI answers vary from one run to the next. Profound runs each prompt daily on each engine and reports averages over time, which smooths out the noise. Two things are worth knowing before you trust any single number. First, results depend on the prompts you choose: a brand can look dominant on prompts it picked and invisible on the ones buyers really use. Second, regions and languages matter, because an engine can answer differently in London and New York. Profound’s region and language coverage is a real strength here; just make sure your prompt plan reflects your actual markets.

How to get started with Profound

  1. Write your buyer questions first. List the 20 to 30 questions your customers would ask an AI assistant before they buy, in their words.
  2. Start the 7-day trial. It runs 50 recommended prompts daily on ChatGPT, Gemini and Google AI Overviews. You can’t customise them, so compare them with your list.
  3. Check FactCheck and citations early. Wrong claims and the sources behind them are quick wins, even if you don’t buy.
  4. Connect Agent Analytics if you can. Knowing which AI crawlers read your site makes the visibility data easier to act on.
  5. Test one Agent. Run a content refresh on a page you know well and judge the draft honestly.
  6. Get the quote in writing. Ask for the prompt count, engines, regions, seats and monthly credit allowance before you compare suppliers.

How much does Profound cost?

Profound doesn’t publish a paid price for brands. The table below shows what’s on Profound’s pricing page, checked 23 October 2026, with agency add-on prices from Profound’s Agency Growth announcement.

Plan Price What’s included
Trial (brands) Free for 7 days 50 recommended prompts run daily on ChatGPT, Gemini and Google AI Overviews; limited AI Marketer credits; unlimited seats
Enterprise (brands) See website (custom) Tailored prompt plan, up to 9 answer engines, AI Marketer credits for your team, API and CSV/JSON exports, SSO/SAML, a dedicated specialist with a 24-hour response time; unlimited seats
Agency Growth $99/month plus add-ons 10 pitch workspaces a month (25 prompts each) and 5 agency seats
Client workspace (agency add-on) $399/month each 100 prompts on ChatGPT, Perplexity and Google AI Overviews, 400 Agent credits a month and 6 AEO articles a month
Extra pitch workspaces (agency add-on) $199/month 5 more pitch workspaces

How credits work

Browsing your visibility data doesn’t use credits. AI Marketer messages, Agent and workflow runs (including test runs), Sheet rows and Prompt Research Reports do, and a complex run costs more than a simple one. Trial credits are a one-off allowance that doesn’t renew. On paid plans, admins can cap credits per team member, and the account can either keep running into overage or pause when credits run out (see Profound’s guide to credits). Ask which setting your contract uses before you hand the AI Marketer to a large team.

A note on old prices

You’ll find Profound quoted at $99 or $399 a month for brands on review sites and in older comparisons. Those self-serve brand plans are no longer on the pricing page, so check the date on anything you read and treat Enterprise as the only paid brand option today.

Is the free trial enough to decide?

Not on its own. Seven days of 50 fixed prompts on three engines tells you whether Profound’s data looks credible for your brand and whether the interface suits your team. It won’t show you how the tool performs on your own prompts, across all nine engines, or in your other markets. Use the trial to shortlist, then ask sales for a paid pilot on your real prompt list before you sign an annual contract.

Who Profound suits, and who it doesn’t

Good fit:

  • Enterprise and larger mid-market brands where someone owns AI visibility as a KPI and reports on it
  • Teams in regulated or reputation-sensitive sectors that need FactCheck and security sign-off
  • Global brands that need many languages and regions
  • Retailers that care how ChatGPT Shopping presents their products
  • Agencies building a GEO or AEO service, using pitch workspaces to win clients

Poor fit:

  • Small businesses and solo marketers who need a published monthly price
  • Teams that only want a simple share-of-voice number each week
  • Anyone hoping an agent will fix AI visibility without a human reviewing the content

Pros and cons of Profound

Pros

  • Among the widest engine, language and region coverage in the category
  • Front-end answer capture, closer to what real users see
  • Data most trackers lack: Prompt Volumes, Agent Analytics, FactCheck and ChatGPT Shopping
  • AI Marketer and Agents turn insight into drafts, with an approval step on every run
  • Strong, independently reported funding and big-name customers
  • Unlimited seats on both brand plans

Cons

  • No public price for brands after the free trial
  • The trial is short, fixed and limited to three engines
  • Credits make the cost of agent work harder to forecast
  • A broad product with a learning curve for smaller teams
  • Customer counts and case-study results are Profound’s own claims

Profound alternatives

Profound is one of several tools tracking AI search. Here’s how it compares with the ones in our directory. Prices are as shown on each vendor’s site when we last reviewed them; check before you buy.

Tool Best for Starting price
Profound Enterprise depth, many engines, agents that act on the data Free 7-day trial, then custom
Peec AI Self-serve AI search analytics with published prices From $95/month

The closest like-for-like choice for most readers is Profound or Peec AI. Peec is self-serve, with published prices and unlimited users, and focuses on analytics. Profound covers more engines and adds agents, but needs a sales conversation. Our Peec AI review has the full detail. If you want content production more than measurement, read our Okara review, Opinly review, Overrank review or Bunzy review.

Where Profound fits in your marketing stack

Profound doesn’t replace your SEO platform. Classic rankings, backlinks and technical audits still matter, and AI engines lean heavily on the same pages that rank well in search. Think of Profound as the measurement and action layer for AI answers, sitting alongside your SEO suite, your analytics and your PR monitoring. Our list of the 25 best AI analytics tools covers the reporting side, and our guide to the best LLM for SEO explains how the engines themselves differ.

The AI Marketer and Agents push Profound towards a different category: AI marketing agents. If that’s the part that interests you most, compare it with the tools in our best AI marketing agents in 2026 roundup and our guide to AI marketing agents for SEO, and browse the AI agents tag. The difference is that Profound’s agents are driven by its visibility data, so their suggestions start from a measured gap rather than a content calendar.

How we scored Profound

Every DMS review uses the same five criteria, each marked out of 5, and the overall score is the average. This is a desk review: we scored what the vendor publishes and what independent sources confirm, not a paid hands-on test.

Criterion Score Why
Features and depth 4.5/5 Up to 9 engines, real prompt volumes, AI crawler logs, FactCheck, Shopping and agents that act on the data.
Pricing transparency and value 2/5 No public price for brands after a short, fixed trial; agent work is billed in credits. Agency prices are public.
Evidence and credibility 4.5/5 Named founders, $335M+ raised from top-tier investors and named enterprise customers. Results claims are the vendor’s own.
Risk and compliance 4/5 SOC 2 Type II, SSO and an approval step on every Agent run. Credit overage needs managing.
Ease of getting started 3/5 Powerful but broad; expect a learning curve and a sales process before you see real data.
Overall 3.6/5 Worth a careful trial

Our verdict on Profound

Profound is the most complete AI search visibility platform we’ve reviewed. Its tracker covers more engines, languages and regions than most rivals, it captures answers the way real users see them, and it adds data few others have: real prompt volumes, AI crawler logs, FactCheck and ChatGPT Shopping. The AI Marketer and Agents are a genuine step beyond dashboards, and the approval step on every run is the right design. The funding, investors and named customers make it one of the safest bets in a young category.

The weaknesses are commercial rather than technical. Brands can’t see a price before talking to sales, the trial is a short preview on a fixed prompt set, and credits add a variable cost. That’s why it scores 3.6 rather than higher. If AI search is already a KPI and you have an enterprise budget, Profound belongs on your shortlist, and you should run a paid pilot on your own prompts. If you need a price you can see today, start with Peec AI and revisit Profound when the budget grows.
