Manage Meta and TikTok ads with Claude: both platforms now run official ads MCP servers, LinkedIn is in approval-only beta

Some links on Digital Marketing Supermarket are affiliate links, and some listings and spotlights are sponsored. We may earn a commission or a fee from these at no extra cost to you. Sponsored placements are always labelled, and payment never decides a review score. We use AI tools to help with research and drafting, and an editor checks and edits everything before it’s published.

You can now manage Meta and TikTok ads from Claude by connecting each platform’s official MCP server: Meta’s hosted server and TikTok for Business MCP both let an AI assistant read performance, build campaigns and change ads after you sign in and grant permissions. LinkedIn’s equivalent is an approval-only beta. The safe way to start is read-only, with platform rules and Claude’s per-tool approvals switched on, because these connections can spend real money.

This guide covers what each server does, step-by-step setup in Claude (and ChatGPT), the safety settings that matter and good first prompts. It is based on Meta’s, TikTok’s, Anthropic’s and OpenAI’s own pages plus named third-party guides, checked in October 2026. We have not connected a live ad account.

Key takeaways

  • Meta opened its ads MCP server to any developer with their own Meta app on 16 July 2026. Third-party guides give the hosted server URL as https://mcp.facebook.com/ads.
  • Since 6 October 2026, Meta says agent-staged work lands as a draft in Ads Manager, and every action is gated by advertiser-set permissions and explicit approval.
  • TikTok’s MCP needs no developer account. It offers a full server (about 400 tools) and a layered one (about 40 core tools), and authorisation lasts 30 days.
  • TikTok says advertisers using its MCP rose more than 200% since launch. Both that and Meta’s “5% more conversions” claim are the platforms’ own figures.
  • In Claude, custom connectors work on Free (one connector), Pro, Max, Ultra, Team and Enterprise. Keep write tools on “Needs approval” or blocked.
  • LinkedIn’s MCP server is a beta for approved developers only, “not general access”, so most advertisers can’t use it yet.

What is an ads MCP server?

MCP, the Model Context Protocol, is a standard way for an AI assistant such as Claude or ChatGPT to call outside tools. An ads MCP server exposes an ad platform’s functions, such as reporting, campaign creation and audience management, as tools the assistant can call after you sign in. Previously, as Meta puts it, connecting AI agents to Meta ads “required writing and maintaining custom integration code” (Meta).

What can Claude do with Meta’s ads MCP server?

Meta lists these use cases (Meta):

  • Ads creation and editing: create, edit and delete campaigns, ad sets and ads.
  • Custom audiences: create, update and delete them.
  • Catalogues: create a catalogue, add products, set up product sets and fix issues that stop products showing.
  • Performance: query spend, impressions, CTR, ROAS and more, with breakdowns by age, gender and platform.
  • Signal diagnostics, Help Center search, and A/B tests and conversion lift studies.

At Advertising Week New York on 6 October 2026, Meta added more: uploading creative, previewing ads as they will appear on Facebook and Instagram, and tracking performance with trends and drill-downs. Agent-staged work “lands as a draft in Ads Manager, so people and agents can co-author the same campaign”, and every action is “gated behind advertiser-set permissions and explicit approval before anything goes live” (Relevant Audience, quoting Meta; also Social Media Today and MediaPost). Meta named ten partners that have integrated the server: AdManage.ai, Birch, Blip, Databricks, Innovid, Kochava, Perplexity, Reportei, Snowflake and Triple Whale.

Meta’s own page could not be loaded by our tools on 31 October, so these AWNY details come from the coverage above, which quotes it.

How to connect Meta Ads to Claude, step by step

These steps follow Anthropic’s help pages and Plainrouter’s guide to Meta’s official server. Plainrouter sells a separate Meta Ads MCP service, so we use its guide only for setup facts.

  1. Check your plan and role. Claude custom connectors are available on Free (limited to one custom connector), Pro, Max, Ultra, Team and Enterprise. On Team and Enterprise plans, an Owner or Primary Owner must add the connector for the organisation first (Claude Help Center).
  2. Add the connector. In Claude, open Customize > Connectors > + Add > Add custom connector. Name it “Meta Ads” and enter https://mcp.facebook.com/ads (Plainrouter).
  3. Sign in to Meta. Choose “Sign in now”, use automatic registration if offered, and complete Meta’s authorisation screen. Check which business assets and permissions you are granting.
  4. Enable it in a chat. Turn the connector on from the conversation’s + > Connectors menu.
  5. Set tool permissions. Under Customize > Connectors > Tool permissions, tools are grouped (for example read-only and write/delete) and each can be set to Always allow, Needs approval or Blocked. On Team and Enterprise, Owners can apply this organisation-wide (Claude Help Center). Keep write tools on Needs approval, or block them for the first week.
  6. Set Meta’s server rules. Rules define what an agent can and can’t do on an ad account or catalogue, for example read access to performance data without the ability to change budgets (Meta). Plainrouter says they are set in Meta Business Suite under Settings > Integrations > Ads MCP server, where a portfolio administrator can block actions such as campaign creation or budget changes above a chosen amount; managing rules needs full control of the business portfolio, and if the menu is missing the feature isn’t available to you yet.
  7. Start with a read-only request (see the prompts below).

Claude Code users can add the server from the terminal with claude mcp add --transport http meta-ads https://mcp.facebook.com/ads, then run /mcp to authenticate. Adding the configuration alone does not connect the account (Plainrouter).

What permissions does Meta’s ads MCP need?

For token-based setups, Plainrouter cites Meta’s minimum as ads_mcp_management plus ads_read or ads_management, with more scopes unlocking more tools. It reports that the endpoint advertised nine scopes on 19 October, that new campaigns, ad sets and ads are created paused, that Employee-role system-user tokens are supported but Admin-role ones are not, and that Meta publishes no price for the server (Plainrouter).

What if you are an agency or developer?

Meta’s route for your own app: in the developer dashboard, open Use cases > Add use cases > Ads and monetization, select “Create & manage ads with ads MCP server” and save. If you manage data for other businesses, request Advanced Access on ads_mcp_management through app review. Then choose OAuth or a pre-obtained access token (Meta). Rules can also be set in bulk through the Marketing API, so you can start new accounts read-only and widen permissions later.

How to connect TikTok Ads to Claude

  1. Use the official connector. Claude’s directory lists a TikTok for Business connector made by TikTok, added in August 2026, with 39 tools including report_integrated_get, smart_plus_ad_create, dmp_custom_audience_list_get and catalog_get (Claude directory). Its connector URL is a Claude-specific version of TikTok’s layered server.
  2. Or add a custom URL. TikTok offers two servers: “Full Disclosure” at https://business-api.tiktok.com/open_mcp/tt-ads-mcp-flat, which loads around 400 tools at once, and “Progressive Disclosure” at https://business-api.tiktok.com/open_mcp/tt-ads-mcp-layer, which loads around 40 core tools and finds the rest on demand (TikTok). The layered server is the better choice for most chats.
  3. Authorise. Sign in to TikTok Ads Manager, review the permissions and click Authorize. Authorisation lasts 30 days, then you reauthorise with the same account. You don’t need a developer account or app.
  4. Mind the limits. TikTok asks you to keep Smart+ create and update calls for a single ad to one every 5 seconds to avoid concurrency errors.

TikTok’s documentation also notes that from 1 January 2027, non-Search legacy manual campaigns can no longer be created through its API (TikTok), so prompts that build campaigns should target Smart+.

At Advertising Week, TikTok said its MCP had seen a more than 200% increase in advertisers using it since launch, and that the connector is available in Claude, Kimi, Manus, Perplexity, Replit, Snowflake, Tencent WorkBuddy and the IAB Tech Lab Agent Registry (TikTok Newsroom). Those are TikTok’s figures.

Can you use ChatGPT instead of Claude?

Yes, with limits. OpenAI says custom MCP server connections and full MCP support, including write actions, are available to ChatGPT Business and Enterprise/Edu customers on the web; Pro users can connect custom servers with read and fetch permissions only. On Business, only admins and owners can create and publish them. ChatGPT may ask for confirmation before write actions depending on app permissions, and custom MCP servers are web-only, not mobile (OpenAI Help Center). The setup path is Plugins > + > Add custom MCP server, then the public HTTPS URL, authentication and a risk acknowledgement.

What should you ask first? Safe starter prompts

Begin with questions that read data and change nothing:

  • “List the ad accounts I can access, with account IDs and currencies.”
  • “For account [ID], show spend, CPA and ROAS by campaign for the last 14 days, sorted by spend.”
  • “Which ad sets had frequency above 3 this week, and how did their CTR change?”
  • “Summarise any catalogue or signal-health issues on this account.”
  • “Draft, but don’t create, three new ad variations for the best-performing ad and explain why.”

Only when the reads look right should you allow the assistant to create paused drafts for you to review in Ads Manager.

How do you keep an AI agent from wasting ad spend?

  1. Read-only first. Use Meta’s server rules and Claude’s per-tool permissions to block writes until you trust the outputs.
  2. Name the account every time. Plainrouter warns not to assume selecting a portfolio limits every tool to one account.
  3. Keep approval on writes. Use “Needs approval” in Claude and keep Meta’s draft-and-approve flow.
  4. Cap budgets in the platform, not just in the prompt.
  5. Watch for prompt injection. Anthropic’s directory says “Only use connectors from developers you trust”, and OpenAI warns that unsafe or untrusted MCP servers may increase exposure to prompt injection (Claude, OpenAI).
  6. Never paste tokens into chats or shared config files.
  7. Test claims on your own account. Meta says advertisers adopting its assistant’s recommendations typically see 5% more conversions at the same cost per conversion, but published no method (Relevant Audience). In Meta’s blog, AdManage co-founder Cedric Yarish said a live test on a 270-ad account found every ad in 2.4 seconds. Treat both as vendor claims.

Is there a LinkedIn Ads MCP server?

Not for most advertisers yet. Influent’s October 2026 round-up lists LinkedIn’s MCP Server as “Beta, approval required”: approved developers can connect AI agents to “select official LinkedIn Marketing APIs”, which it calls “a beta integration path, not general access to automate LinkedIn” (Influent). Until it opens, see our guide to LinkedIn ads.

Should you use an MCP server or an AI ads tool?

An MCP connection gives you a general assistant with direct access to the platform. You write the prompts and own the process. A dedicated AI ads tool packages that into workflows, reports and creative generation. If you want the packaged route, compare our round-ups of AI paid ads agents and AI paid ads tools, or read our reviews of Playad, Muze Ads Agent and Adside.
